Halloween Goes to America

Halloween in America was popularized by Irish immigrants in the mid 1800’s  (eighteen hundreds).

The traditional turnip used for carving scary ghost faces was replaced by American pumpkin, which was plentiful and easier to work with.

With time Halloween has become the second most important commercial event preceded only by Christmas.

Costumes, candies, spooky story-telling contests, parties, houses of horror, hay rides, street parades are now all part of the celebration, which started as an ancient Celtic custom.

You can read and watch more, much more about how Halloween came to America, right here on Halloween History
