Black Friday in the USA - the Start to the Holiday Shopping Season

Happy Thanksgiving!  Now when The American Holiday is over and we are all stuffed like the turkey we can do what Americans do best – we can go shopping.

The Friday after Thanksgiving is really crazy.  Not only is it the day of super promotions and super sales.  It is also one of the most dangerous days of the year for traffic and security.  People not only shop till they drop.  Crooks are coming out of the woods looking for an opportunity to make the extra buck pick pocketing, breaking into cars in shopping malls parking lots, robbing homes and just stealing whatever they can put their hands on.

For retail stores the Black Friday is the ultimate tester of the merchandise selection and time for last minute changes.  It is the single highest volume sales day in the entire year.  As the day passes, the stores get more and more messy.  Customers start seeing empty delivery cartons all over the place.  The shopping is so intense there is no time to keep the display floors shiny and in perfect order they are usually in.  There are long lines of cars just trying to get to the parking lots.

By 4pm (four pm) all inbound traffic almost comes to a halt from the sheer volume.  The outbound travel isn’t going much faster either.  Cars get in thousands of little fender benders.  Nervous drivers cause numerous accidents on the highways.  Many of them involve multiple vehicles.  Some are deadly.

Just like the start of the day when people get trampled right after the doors open, trying to get in after waiting on lines outside in the cold, sometimes in rain or even snow, sometimes for as long as from Thanksgiving Day’s morning.

Happy Shopping People!  Stay Alive!
