Why I Love American English?

Why I Love American English?  It’s simple - It Is Simple!  When you compare American English to British English, it’s just much more simple.  Yes, yes, yes: more simple not simpler – for all you English purists.

It’s not just the language, it’s the whole American set of mind and way of thinking that I got to love and admire.  For its pragmatism and down-to-earth approach to just about everything and anything including lavishness.  Yes, yes, yes – again!  Even wasting money, the American way, is done in an efficient, economical way.  But that’s a different story …

Getting back to American English … Pragmatism … Or in other words: Keep It Simple.  There is even an acronym for that: KIS or KIS(S), if you may.  The second S stands for Stupid to stress the importance of the rule, which is ever-present, as it should be, not only in the US of A.

One example is the use of Past Simple Tense (was/were) which very often is used where Present Perfect Tense (have/has been) would be used in British English.

US: Where were you?
UK: Where have you been?

Just look at the two (2) lines above (US vs. UK) and you’ll see the difference and the reason.  The US version is plain(ly) shorter.  Pragmatic.  Practical.  Keep It Simple Sir!

Talking about Keeping It Simple and Short … I’ll talk about it more some other time.  This time - to make it sweet and short – American English is more simple than its British root(s), so to speak – that’s why I love it so, so, sooooo much.

See ya …
